    Twisted Castle Duo 0 Seconds

    Posted: 05 Jun 2021 05:51 AM PDT

    Hello,

We wanted to push our latest duo (1:14 min) further to see what the best possible time is when abusing all of the encounter's mechanics. The goal was to beat the fastest 10 man record when we started thinking about this (which was around 1 minute back then) as a duo. Fast forward a long time and we found out that 0 seconds TC is possible with proper preparations.

For this we used a Daredevil to be able to get to the end door and to press F, and a random class to kill the mobs to start the encounter. Video's with full preparation included can be found in the description of the video's.

I thought after years of looking at the new LA I'd get used to it.

Nope. It's so bland that it almost hurts my eyes.

I know this thread gets posted once a day. There's a reason.

Is it too much to ask to be civilised in fractals?

    Posted: 04 Jun 2021 07:01 PM PDT

So basicly I joined a party for recs fractals. They were new to fractals so I hard carried them on my HFB (sunqua in T3 and shattered in T1). One of them was afk all fractal long on shattered. I told them that this wasn't an apropriate behavior and that he shouldn't afk without a Word in group activites.

Long story short, after dealing with all the whisp for the pillars on shattered, they kicked me at 5%. Sure I am mad about this situation but I don't wanna bitch about them on internet, I've been doing daily fractal for a long time and it was the 1st I've seen something like this. I just want to remind people that the players you play with are human behings and that you shouldn't act like that with strangers.

    "Normal"

I fell outside of the map in dry top, and found this ominously "normal" place that extends underneath the silverwastes. Forbidden knowledge, perhaps?

    I am lost and afraid

The way is shut. It was made by those who are Normal, and the Normal keep it, until the time comes.

    World Bosses Need Updates

    Posted: 04 Jun 2021 09:29 AM PDT

A brief personal story, to begin.

I've been playing Guild Wars since Prophecies. My wife had never played Guild Wars but she was big into MMO's, so I decided to get her into Guild Wars 2. We're having fun, she's enjoying the game, she's a big fan of the various systems GW2 has. Particularly the emphasis on exploring and the lack of having to talk to NPCs to get quests.

We get to Shadow Behemoth, and it's perfectly timed with our adventure. I couldn't have asked for the event to start at a better time. We do the pre, and the boss spawns. She is very excited. This is a huge moment and it's extremely cool to get to see a new player experience EXACTLY everything in perfect succession.

    We fight the boss.

    She tells me,

"Hey, that kinda sucked. Is that how they're all gonna be?"

I tell her no, that newer bosses are very exciting and a few old bosses have been reworked. She believes me, and we continue playing, but that experience was soured.

The perfect new player experience soiled because Shadow Behemoth, as a bossfight, is extremely boring.

Nothing happens during Shadow Behemoth. I don't even think it's possible to die during Shadow Behemoth, I've maybe seen it once in my 9 years of playing GW2.

I wouldn't even dare show her, or any new player, Fire Elemental. What an absolute joke of a "boss". A pre event followed by a wait followed by a 10-15 second loot piñata. Embarrassing. Go ahead, go do Fire Elemental, tell me how long it takes. I'm willing to bet it's less than 20 seconds for the actual bossfight. Cool looking, visually impressive, but lacking any kind of substance. Like a really pretty candle with glimmering wax, but doesn't smell like literally anything.

These early game bosses create the expectation for new players that the game has lazy, unfun, boring bossfights. Which isn't true at all. There are a lot of good bosses in GW2, you just don't see them until you've dumped quite a few hours in. Which, if you want fun bossfights and the first couple of bosses you fought are all terrible, why would you do?

I don't think these bosses need full overhauls or major reworks. I actually think a little bit more HP and maybe one new mechanic that encourages movement and creates some actual peril would go a long way.

Like, everyone congregates in one area for both Megadestroyer and Shadow Behemoth. For Mega, everyone stands on those pillars over the lava. Maybe Megadestroyer breaks those pillars and dumps everyone in the lava every once in a while? Maybe Shadow Behemoth gets an AoE attack that deals more damage per player it hits at once? Maybe give Fire Elemental enough health to actually fight back?

I'm doing endgame content and having to explain to people what CC is and what the Defiance bar is. It could be that players are just EXP boosting and don't know what anything is, but I also think it's possible that so many of the bosses are "Asleep at the Wheel" bosses that don't actually require any input from individual players, that why would they learn these boss mechanics?

I'm not asking for every single boss to be Tequatl. I just want the bosses to try to kill me. Make SOME effort to win. Make the player at least FEEL like they have to do something otherwise they'll lose.

I've seen the argument that if the bosses were too hard then new players would get turned away. Is it better for new players to get to actual content and run around like chickens with their heads cut off never actually knowing what's going on? That can't be good for player retention. Plus, I think people need to give "new players" a little more credit. People play videogames and people play MMO's, they know what to expect and having a giant monster fight you like a toddler would fight Mike Tyson just feels bad. It sets bad expectations.

Thanks for coming to my Haunt Talk.

Impressions of a 50 hours player.

    Posted: 05 Jun 2021 03:00 AM PDT

Greetings guys. So I'm playing the game and I'm having a LOT of fun, like, I feel this is going to be the MMO I'm going to stick with from now on. Since I'm in the army and I have a lot of free time, I'd like to write down the pros and cons I've found in the game so far hoping to spark a conversation. This is from the perspective of a fresh lvl 80 character player with about 50 hours in the game.

    Pros:

    • The art, everything about it is visually stunning. I've caught myself stopping the exploration just to look around a beautiful scenery, and that hasn't happened in to me in a while.

    • The actual concept of exploration. The game rewards you for doing literally anything. The zones are beautiful and they have continuity with each other, at least between each race's zones.

    • I've come to appreciate the fact that as a f2p player I don't have access to mounts, which makes me run around the maps and enjoying them. Leveling a second character to max level though, I'm sure that a mount makes everything easier and enjoyable too.

    • Great classes, class fantasies, specialisations etc. The fact that your whole class experience changes depending on your weapon is a huge thing. The fact I can be a support warrior, a healer ranger etc, is also amazing. Class customisation in this game is top notch.

    • Decent story so far. Playing a human, I enjoyed being able to choose my actions throughout the main story, all the way up to facing Zhaitan's forces.

    • Great combat. Combat feels very fluid and interactive and I love the switching weapons feature. Dodging and blocking is great too.

    • PvP is great. I don't really get the hate for PvP in the game and it's sad that it's kinda overlooked as it has some serious potential. This game definitely needs a 2v2 of 3v3 arena ladder similar to WoW's.

    • WvW is an amazing pvp feature.

    • Beautiful looking gear which is customisable too. Many ways to acquire it.

    • Having just stepped into low fractals I found them to be very fun and rewarding.

    • World bosses. I was just wandering around and out of nowhere Shadow Behemoth spawned and a ton of players gathered to defeat this huge monster. Even if it didn't feel threatening, it was an amazing experience.

    • Amazing community. Literally the best community I've been a part of. Very very helpful, friendly and patient for the most part. Exceptions exist but they're a small number for me so far.

    • Game in general feels casual friendly and doesn't force you to do anything to have fun. It's up to you to enjoy the content you want, but if you want challenge you can find it (high level fractals / raids) or create it on your own by setting goals.

    • This is a buy once to play for free forever game.

And now to the cons. Bear in mind that some of these may be misinformative since I'm not yet fully experienced in the game. Feel free to point out any wrong points.

    • The story, while decent, doesn't have a lot of depth, or at least I feel like it's not explained well enough. I felt this more once I tried playing Living World S2 episode 1 and i had literally no idea who the NPCs I was dealing with were. As far as I know LWS1 can't be experienced which sucks since I'm sure I could learn something from it, instead of just reading about it.

    • Dungeons are pretty much dead and kinda irrelevant. Except if you want to farm some of the items provided with each dungeon's eplorable mode currency for the fashion of it. While I understand that fractals are supposed to be the instanced pve content of the game, it sucks that I have to get to lvl 80 to experience it.

    • PvP can be pretty unbalanced. Other than that, many times it feels like playing a moba game. This game needs a little bit more time and money invested on its PvP imo.

    • Combat can get a bit repetitive depending on what class you're playing.

    • Sometimes the game feels overwhelming. There's some features that are not properly explained. I'm still having a hard time figuring out how crafting professions work in comparison for example to WoW.

    • Armor can be extremely boring looking up to lvl 80 when it gets amazing. I remember my ranger looking pretty much the same up to level cap. I still have just two skins of Greatswords, while I've been using one since I got one. And they look the same.

    • From what I've seen and experienced most of the combat in PvE like fractals, happens while everyone is stacked together to get boons. Positioning isn't big of a concern.

    • You can literally skip 70-80% of a dungeon and some fractals by running to bosses. You can also ignore mechanics. That sucks. Maybe it gets better with higher fractals. Doesn't get better for dungeons at all.

    • The gem shop, while it doesn't sell anything that would make the game P2W, feels pretty necessary as it sells some great QoL items like big bags you definitely need, as the game has the tendency to fill your bags with crap. The upside is you can get gems with gold (in game currency) but im not sure how fast or effective that is.

    • ArenaNet feels like a kinda incompetent game developer tbh. Or at least, still not sure with the direction it wants to get with its game.

That's from the top of my mind. Feel free to discuss and point out any mistakes I've made, I'm sure there's a bunch of it.

Crafting License bugged and my disciplines are wiped

Crafting License bugged and my disciplines are wiped

Hello all, this is a long read but its worth it, I'd like to gain some insight and advice. I know its "just make a ticket" but I wanted insight and the possibility of hearing similar issues, plus I already did.

Last year around October I made my crafting alt "Archy Archy". I bought two crafting licenses and attempted to max out all disciplines besides scribing. I got the ones to 400 max and then got the majority to around 450, in the level range to start making the perquisites to making ascended gear. I lost motivation to play the game and dropped it. I got so into cooking that I unlocked the gardening plots and a large majority gourmet cooking, before giving up on an in home instanced cooking station. (It was so much gold) I got new achievements and bags from each in my bank

Six months later my wife and I decided to start playing the game again. Three weeks later, I log in to my alt to make us exotic 80 gear and the only disciplines I have active are weaponsmithing and huntsman, I go to jewelry, talk to the master crafter and its like I never even did jewelry crafting, fat 0, but retained all unlocked recipes from discovery. Its like this on the other 5 disciplines I made progress in. I'm still able to have 4 active disciplines and can actively craft in all 4 chosen without paying to swap @ the master craftsman. But again, they're all at ZERO.

I make a ticket about it, and come to find out there's only history for me purchasing one crafting license and as far as the GM can see, I only have one additional crafting licenses. Which is crazy because I remember buying two. Here's where it gets really weird. I'm not able to buy another license in the store (won't show up on my account) and I can actively still use all 4 without swapping, it shows it on my hero panel and I can also access it there. So, I still have access to 4 active disciplines, discovered recipes, garden plots from gourmet cooking line but my levels are wiped.

Support pretty much told me that it wasn't in their control and to make a bug report, which I did.

I'm really bumbed out because I threw alot of money and time at the game to get the crafting leveled and now I just have nothing to show for it and have to start over.

Below are pictures of a supposedly 3 licensed account.

    Through the hero menu

Can't find them in the store either, my wifes store page shows it just fine.

    Here are the garden plots.
