This update is another huge step in aiming for REPLAYABILITY and RE-USING CONTENT Posted: 26 May 2021 12:04 AM PDT For a year or so now, we've seen Anet shift gears in terms of content purposes. We were used to one shot story instances with patch that lasted 3 hours in a straight line and then not knowing what to do. Since IBS, we have seen more and more replayability, from instanced content to re-using old content like this patch. This makes me hopeful for the future. (I'd like to back to Orr for example) Edit : to make it clear, I'm not saying those new achievements are adding a lot of replayability, I'm saying it's a reason to reuse old content, like they do more and more for some time now. Why are PoF maps so dead compared to HoT maps?(meta events specifically) Posted: 26 May 2021 03:56 AM PDT I was going through HoT and PoF lately to redo all the maps and meta events in them, and I've found consistently for weeks now that HoT maps are regularly in LFG and easy to find squads to complete the meta events with. However with PoF metas, its much harder to find groups. Not only do I rarely see groups in LFG for Domain of Vabbi or Desolation but I was only able to get a group started myself once or twice with most times very few people wanted to join the LFG for it. Anyone know why the map metas for HoT are so much more active and attractive to people than PoF metas? Even Living Story season 4 maps actually have more active LFG metas than PoF. My own personal theory was that it had to do with rewards, specifically rare drops. HoT maps(AB, TD) have metas that have a chance to drop extremely rare yet valuable rewards(infusions), which incentivizes people to go and do them regularly since its basically a form of gambling to go and do the meta and hope you get something worth 1-5k gold. Some of the LS4 maps have something similar where there are rare infusion drops from metas that are super valuable. Edit: Crystal Oasis is an exception, as I do actually see people in LFG frequently doing the meta, which is mainly again I suspect for the rare infusion chance. Living World Season 2 Achievement Guides Posted: 25 May 2021 09:37 AM PDT Hello Reddit! With the old Season 2 episodes coming back (and for free!) I decided to start making my own achievement guides to help people who still need them :) I know these guides already been made and most people used Dulfy guides for this, but I decided to make them with my own style and of course more updated. I'm working on the Season 3 guides too and later I will do the "Seasons of the Dragons" guide as well for the legendary amulet :D (I'm not doing it yet because it's very simple so far) I hope it helps! EDIT: To clarify for the legendary amulet check under the "Side Stories" -> "Current Events" category and you will find the "Seasons of the Dragons" achievement. Each week you will find new achievements under "Bonus Events" to progress that, and they will stay permanently. So far they are very simple (mostly replay the story, do events and gather nodes) so I'm not doing the guide for that yet. I think Anet has started banning sPvP players for flaming/idle Posted: 26 May 2021 07:28 AM PDT Today, I got banned for chat abuse. I would say it's deserved, I was not being very nice. The reason I'm making this post is that I've seen multiple people suddenly DCing and staying offline (or off-line haha) after they've been abusive a few matches in a row or just AFK after dying once. Perhaps they are finally banning again, I've seen so many people just being absolutely disgusting in what they are saying for matches or even days on end. I get way too easily angered by these people and answer with abuse, I should try to not let it affect me this much. So this did wake me up to be better when my 72h ban is up and I'm glad they are banning people. Firebrand Mantra Accessibility Issue Posted: 25 May 2021 12:23 PM PDT This afternoon I made a forum post about an accessibility issue with the firebrand mantra art and I'm hoping it can be changed. I've been playing firebrand nearly every day since 2016, but the new patch has made that difficult. As someone with poor eye sight, the mantra visual changes greatly impacted my ability to determine how many mantras uses I have left. This is an accessibility problem I've found has impacted a good portion of the community I play with and something I hope can be changed soon. My hope is that the firebrand mantras can go back to having their own art for each use. I understand that while the white number indicators seem large enough when looking, in the heat of combat it's very hard to see past cooldown timers whilst also doing mechanics. Thank you. The 'Catch-up' mechanic GW2 needed Posted: 25 May 2021 04:44 PM PDT Many veterans of the game have surely finished the meta achievement for the first 2 living world chapters. Takes at most 2 hours if you are a bit lazy about it. But it is such a great catch up mechanic. Let me explain. First, ofc, the living word episodes are given for free. - Playing this (incentivised by the achievements as well) gets people started on the story, it is almost like binge watching a series. Then, there is the achievements. - Seemingly menial tasks, go gather, mine, and chop some trees, and do 10 events while you at it. This makes players who haven't spent time on Dry top so far go around a bit, explore, figure out what is going on. Promise of great, long term rewards. - This being the precursor and legendary. One of the most repeated excuses for not getting into an MMO is that it takes a long time to catch up in Levels. This doesn't apply to GW2, as reaching 80 is trivial, and is only where the game begins. But ascended gear, and, the endgame, legendaries do feel un-approachable to some people. The fact that ascended weapons, and leggies are on offer if you stick around are a great incentive to get commitment. Not for long, but it will last 1 week until the next story / batch of achievements drop. I have many friends who played GW2 before, but stopped for a while and didn't return because they felt there was no way to catch up, they don't want to buy the living world episodes, don't want to grind fractals/pvp/wvw, let alone raids for ascended gear, and there is no way they would commit to getting a legendary. Guess what got them to patch up today. I LOVE that the achievements are easy. I LOVE that this content is accessible. It doesn't give much to veterans, but it is THE 'Catch-up' so many needed. I hope at least the little cutscene that you can trigger in LA plays automatically or something. It should at least be accessible from the journal, it wouldn't be enough, but it would be the very bare minimum. I have been spending a considerable amount of time lately working on a desktop GUI application project and have come to the point where I feel it is stable enough to release to the public, in case anyone might find some use of it. What is it? This is a simple application in attempt to provide useful resourceful tools during game play in a compact and out of the way window. The current features are note taker, material tracker, and a convenient browser. Bad performance on semi-modern PC? Posted: 26 May 2021 08:27 AM PDT Am running a GTX 1070 and a Ryzen 5 2600, trying out the game i can't even reach 50FPS in the first Human area? After a bit of fiddling it turns out that the only way to gain any FPS is by turning down the "Shaders" options but that makes the game rather ugly. [link] [comments] |
