    Arcdps Log Manager, now 1.0

    Posted: 13 Dec 2020 08:49 AM PST

    Hello!

After more than 2 years of work, I am happy to announce that my arcdps Log Manager has now reached version 1.0. There are hundreds of users already, but I feel like now is the time to post about it here as well.

    arcdps Log Manager

So, what is this thing? It's a program, a manager for all your recorded arcdps logs. You can filter logs, upload them with one click to dps.report, find interesting statistics...

    Screenshots

Screenshots are worth a thousand words, so you can check them out here.

For those who like a thousand words

    Have you...

    • ever wanted to upload all kills in your latest fullclear to dps.report with one click?
    • ever wondered what your fastest Mursaat Overseer kill was?
    • ever wanted to know how many times you had a Scrapper in a successful run?
    • ever wanted to find out who is the one you raid with the most?
    • ever wanted to find out how many hours you have spent in Dhuum failures?

    You can...

    • filter logs by time, encounter, success/failure, CM/non-CM.
    • quickly see the composition, players, encounter duration for all your logs.
    • upload to dps.report with one click, do batch uploads.
    • see a table of all players in your currently filtered logs.
    • see a table of all guilds in your currently filtered logs.
    • work with thousands of logs.

    About the program

The program is fully open source, with code hosted on GitHub. It's written in .NET (C#), it runs on Windows and Linux through .NET Core.

You may have heard about Elite Insights, the program used by dps.report to generate log reports. Sadly it's not quite performant enough to run on tens of thousands of logs as it calculates a lot of statistics that the manager does not need. For this reason, the Log Manager uses a completely new log processing library with focus on modularity. This might sound easy to write, but just reliably detecting if an encounter was successful can be very difficult, and many encounters have to have custom logic.

In fact, some of the tooling I have written just to make this possible has been used to get bugs in the game fixed (video, reddit thread).

    Bugs and feature requests

You might not realize it, but reporting bugs is incredibly important, after all nobody can fix something they don't know about. I am also open to feature requests. You can use GitHub issues for this or my Discord server.

    Where can I get it?

    On my website: https://gw2scratch.com/tools/manager.

I boosted my Elementalist to level 80. Should I delete it?

    Posted: 14 Dec 2020 09:00 AM PST

I did that about 4 years ago when I did not care about the game. Now I feel like I want to experience the game and playthrough while leveling an Elementalist, but I already have one boosted to level 80.

I am thinking about deleting it and creating a new one so I can stop thinking about it lol.

Edit: To make it clear, I have already leveled a Ranger to level 80 without a boost.

    Story differences for non sylvari

    Posted: 13 Dec 2020 09:41 PM PST

I just finished heart of thorns and Ive noticed a lot of the dialog based around the fact that the commander is a sylvari. Including at the start of the final fight rytlock making a comment about all the people going being sylvari. For someone who has played through heart of thorns on both was there a big difference? Or is it only small dialog lines that actually change?

Meat and Winter Vegetable Stew - A Journey and Recipe

    Posted: 13 Dec 2020 01:14 PM PST

As a player of eight years, I'm still amazed - day by day - how real Tyria feals in comparison to some other MMORPGs out there. It is strange how placing gathering nodes that award you with plain simple onions, potatoes or leek instead of fantasy-vegetable 1 and fantasy-fruit 2 can change things for me and - I guess - many other Tyrians.

That being said, I remember one of the first times I came across a resource node in Frostgorge sound: "Winter Root Vegetables" and finding a "parsnip" - a vegetable I've never tasted in real life before. Mostly because my mom was more of a potato type. And finally, after eight years (!) I decided to change that and try my hand on a GW2 inspired meal. Because … why not? It got actual real ingredients … so why not try to find and cook them?

A bowl of Meat and Winter Vegetable Stew.

Funnily enough, when I checked the reddit yesterday, I saw this very interesting thread by u/Nadir_Bane. I had a good laugh when I read that. Coincidences, man, coincidences. :D

So tl;dr: I want to share my Meat and Winter Vegetable Stew with reddit:

The whole recipe according to Wiki

Finding the correct ingredients wasn't that easy, though. I had all the herbs at hand. Potatoes, onions and carrots weren't a problem either. Parsnips were found pretty fast, too.

But what the hell is a turnip and a rutabaga? The English words are pretty different ... but in German? The first one is a "Steckrübe" and the other one a "Kohlrübe". Still pretty easy? Well ... let me tell you ... it's not. I googled and used Wikipedia, but instead of finding the solution it just created more confusion. Seems like the term is used differently depending on where you come from. (e.g. just go to the German Wikipedia and search for "Steckrübe" - and have a look at the second paragraph ... so many names. @_@).

So in the end, I had to go from the pictures used ingame and came to the conclusion: The Turnip isn't a "Steckrübe" but a "Weiße Rübe" or "Nevette". And the Rutabaga isn't a "Kohlrübe" but a "Steckrübe". sigh

I decided to add some beet to the mix. For the game meat I went for boar goulash. Finally I needed to add more seasoning / spices - otherwise my family would have killed me.
I could finally decide on the following ingredients:

    Ingredients (~ 5 to 6 people):

    • 300g Rutabaga
    • 300g Turnip
    • 300g Potatoes
    • 150g Parsnips
    • 300g Onions
    • 150g beet
    • 500g of boar meat (goulash)
    • 1 bundle of various greens (carrots, leek, celery) 4 tbsp Butter Salt / Pepper / nutmeg 1 1/2 litres vegetable broth 4 tbsp marjoram OR a bundle of parsley bay leaf / thyme / rosemary / sage

    Preparation

1] First of all I had to peel all the vegetables - a chore but it had to be done.

    Starting Position
Peeled and ready to be cooked
(don't mind the meat - I took the wrong one out of the fridge for the first picture)

2] Right after, dice the rutabaga, turnip, potatoes, parsnips and beet (max. 2 cm); dice the boar meat accordingly and take into account that fresh meat will lose a lot of fluid while cooking. Dice the onions, the leek, celery and carrots, too, but considerably smaller.

3] Then, start with the meat. Let the 4 tbsp of butter melt and add half of the onions. Wait until the onions are translucent. Then add the boar meat. Try to sear it - if there's too much excess water (e.g. if your cooking plate is not hot enough) pour it off and keep it in a cup nearby. As soon as the meat got a nice brown colour, add sage and rosemary (and pour back the excess water) and let it cook on a low flame for around 15 minutes. Don't forget to add salt and pepper!

    Searing the meat

4] In the meantime, get another pot and stew the rutabaga, turnip, potatoes, parsnip, beet and the rest of the onions. Stir it a bit, then add the various greens (carrot, leek, celery) to the mix. Let it be for around five to ten minutes, then add the boar meat (+rosemary and sage), 1 litre of the vegetable broth, one or two bay leaves, the thyme and shut the lid.

    Adding everything together

5] Let it cook for around 30 more minutes. Check from time to time if you need to add more broth. It depends on whether you want it to be more of a stew or a soup. Don't forget to add salt and pepper again - and some nutmeg. Try it and season further accordingly. Check, whether your vegetables are done by poking it with a knife. Especially the rutabaga and the parsnip may take a bit longer.
At last add the marjoram or a bundle of parsley to the stew. I decided to go for parsley because I love that stuff.

    Finished stew
    Ready to eat

That's it. And - to be honest - I really, really liked the outcome. I usually don't cook, so feel free to give some tips on what could have been done better or differently. :)

    Cheers!

    Crashing every single time

    Posted: 14 Dec 2020 08:52 AM PST

I updated, or rather re-installed my Nvidia driver today. After I tried to get into gw, my game just instantly crashed. Don't even get to the loading screen/character select. I already tried reinstalling, which doesn't work either.

The error log is saying: More than one view in the „ui_LoadingInfo" addon have the id ""; ids must be unique.

Tbh, I haven't got a single clue what that's even supposed to mean. Did anyone have a similar issue or knows what to do in that case? I would be forever grateful. Thanks in advance :)

How should I chose which eu server to start playing on?

    Posted: 14 Dec 2020 04:03 AM PST

I just want to try out the damn game, but apparently servers mean a lot if you are interested in WvW (which sounds very interesting to me).

I have no clue about how the game works, what you do, guilds, where to find them, how I should join a guild etc etc etc.

Which server to chose? I don't want to make a "bad" choice and then have to pay in order to switch. But most of the threads I've found talking about this address people that have already played the game.

Thanks for the downvote without answering

Looking For Advice: Beetle Race Medallions

    Posted: 14 Dec 2020 06:58 AM PST

I'm marginally capable with the Roller Beetle; I do ok during the festival races, but I don't have the reflexes to be chasing after record time or anything.

That said, I'm interested in some of the tonics, and looking for advice on the most efficient method to farm the medallions in as little time as possible.

Is there a particular race(s) that are the better choice to play daily than others?

Casual verse Hardcore and everything inbetween

    Posted: 14 Dec 2020 08:03 AM PST

I constantly hear WP and other youtubers and everyone on this forum clamor about casuals and whatever... BUT has the different "levels" been defined?

So, lets go through it: (These are just my Opinions)

F2P: This is pretty obvious. I am 100% aware that some F2P players are actually hardcore PVPers using fake new account to hack or Hackers in WVW but there will be trolls in every game. Just know your mother is disappointed in you and your existence is part of the reason the world is going to shit. These are the same people that drop mesmer portals on PVE Metas like AB and TD. Otherwise F2P is exactly that, someone clearly trying the game out without loss of money or any real investment outside of time.

Casual: This is someone who logs in a few times a month, runs around in their favorite game mode but really has little idea what is going on in the game of a larger scale. They may log in a do the new LS stuff and try a meta on the new map if it happens to be going on when they are logged in. This player probably doesnt visit reddit on MMORPG on a regular basis or even knows about it This type of player probably has a few toons to try out the different play styles and see the world but most likely doesn't have world completion, doesnt have a "build" or keeps up with the build metas, most likely has mixed armor sets because they get their stuff from drops, like a mixed of exotic and rare items of mostly different stat types. They may have one ascended item because they played a lot to get a achievement completed one time in Silver Wastes. They come and go from the game on a regular basis because they play other games and when those have a release, GW2 falls by the wayside.

Semi Hardcore: This is someone who plays at a minimum a few times a week. This is someone who would frequent forums and reddit mostly reading, not posting much. This is someone who has multiple toons, most with map comp. They have done every game mode at least once but has settled on the two or three they like most and does them regularly. They have fully geared toons in good builds, they may not be meta or they may be meta, but they do not have a set rotation for skills. They may have read the Snowcrows or metabattle build websites from time to time but do not put a lot of stock or time into learning the rotations. They may need to be carried in the CMs of fractals and have not ventured into raids more than 1-2 but they are logged in and playing mostly every day, doing easy fractal triplets and dailies, maybe a strike mission or two and maybe some farming or something with their guild. They have a guild they interact with regularly and do events with whether is WVW runs on reset or Guild Missions or whatever. They have been playing since launch and this is there main or one of their main games. Their toons are all geared in atleast exotics and ascended armor and weapons. They log in and complete the story for each LS that comes out and crush expansions when released... BUT, the main differentiator here, they do not raid and they do not know rotations BUT, they do play after they have exhausted the LS stuff because they are grinding for legendaries and may have a few, prob not armor, but deff a weapon or two.

Hardcore: Douchebags ruining the games. Those F2P players that hack with F2P accounts so their main account doesnt get banned... these are those guys.

    JK but only kinda.

HARDCORE: Well these are the players that most likely only play GW2. These are the players that probably started and are the leaded of their guild. They have mostly full ascended with a mix of legendary in there for the gear if not full legendary. They have 1 of each class, all with meta builds or maybe their theorycraft their own builds. Maybe they even have 1 of each class and each race and have maxed out character slots. They have 1 or 2 main game modes, but its the pinnacle of said mode. These are the guys you see asking for you to ping your gear in a CM fractal group. Or maybe they are the commander in a WVW run. They are the guys who clear raids on the reg but in a toxic way where you get kicked if your not "up to their standards". They are the elite of the PVP scene. They are the few you see running around with the silly wings you get from making it far in PVP. These are the guys who yell at you because you don't know what a rotation is your not doing enough DPS because they are the type who run DPS meters. They are the guys and gals who make all the complaints on the forum and on reddit. They are the 1% for all intents and purposes except in this case they follow the 80/20 rule. They are the 20% that ruin it by constantly complaining and complaining until the end of time about how this bug or that release or this balance patch, or this item or grind is crap and ANET sux, except they fail to realize, they have put 1000s of hours maybe even 10,000s of hours into a game and if this were to come to an end, there would be a massive void left in their day...

until they found another game to become the raging douchebags in and ruin that one for everyone too.

PS, Im sure there are some hardcore players not like that... but they dont spend much time on reddit do they.

Do they exist? I did some basic searching on Google and didn't seem to come up with anything, but honestly I would LOVE this look on my engineer! Basically keep my hairstyle but have them sit on my head like the cat ears do, or something.
