Dragon Response Missions are as bad as everyone predicted

Arena net and having no expectations - name a more iconic duo

DRM are a huge meme as expected. Instanced open world events with old enemies on old maps with no mechanics at all that just spam cc on you and go inv every minute just to tilt you into oblivion by keeping the downtime in the fight at around 50%

CMs are just adding boons/hp/dmg to enemies and completely irrelevant.

Mastery Track will just trivialize the DRM further by giving players boons and survivability so they don't even bring proper builds or team comps

Scaling on the bosses are completely insane, getting through those sponges in a party of 5 takes more time than getting through Dhuum CM, and it's not even fun, at the end of it you will probably be asleep

They are literally reused open world events for 5 players, the one in Gendarran Fields is literally a 1:1 defence of Ascalonian Settlement but they replaced centaurs with destroyers

When strikes were announced for the first time as a replacement for raids I hated them but now after getting through those 3 Dragon Response Missions I think strikes were great and I'm sad that they had to die for this clown fiesta, good job anet I guess :)

    Voice Actors Appreciation Post

    Posted: 17 Nov 2020 11:27 AM PST

Who would have thought after all of these months that hearing voices in the story would be one of the things I was excited for this patch? It just brings back the charm and flavor into the quest lines from the recent living world episodes.

I guess it's true, you don't really know you missed them until it's actually gone.

Kudos to the voice actors as well as the staff at Anet who made it possible for us to hear the characters.

EDIT: It's not just the story, the whole atmosphere of Drizzlewood Coast now has new VAs which definitely adds a sense of misc ambient noise that is definitely well suited. I suggest doing at least a round of DWC to experience what the developers intended us to go through pre-covid!

Dragon Response Missions, A commentary by Vallun

    Posted: 18 Nov 2020 01:52 AM PST

The feelings I have with the release of the most recent chapter shows I need a break

    Posted: 18 Nov 2020 03:23 AM PST

I was hyped for new content, honestly I was looking forward to more content like strikes. So at 5 pm like a dumbass I was ready, had my workout before that and was waiting for the update, which happened at 6 pm.

So when it was here I played the story mission in Rata and was looking forward to the Dragon missions. I went in the solo version on the first one because that was what I did with Forging Steel as well. There was this 5 minute grind of optional extra's like in forging steel and after that it started.

Oh yes, it started, I talked to Taimi and she moved 5 cm, after which I was way ahead and had to walk back to get her to move again, this happened 3 times. And by now I was thinking this sucked.

But we move into this giant cavern, which looks nice. You fight a bit, and honestly hug the boss for a long time but in the end you kill it.

I felt exhausted and went for dinner.

Next 2 missions I went into public, created a commander tag so people could join, so they naturally did not of course. We did the whole mission, hugged the bosses for eternities, and at the end we got bronze, while we completed every extra task there was. 2 times of course.

Then the mission told me to talk to stuff which wasnt there and in my desperation I went to the forums and reddit for information. NOTHING.

The ENDGAME content which was added to gw2 was this. It is replayable, but on day 2 I have alrdy lost the motivation to play it.

8 years ago when gw2 was released, the endgame content was dungeons. They were tedious, and without elite specs, well you just blundered through, hoping the rest of the team knew what they were doing. This is a recreation of that feeling. And back then I took a 7 year break because of it.

ArenaNet released endgame content that is so muy, MUY subpar I feel like a fucking moron for getting hyped, and then some.

I need a break, for thinking ANet cares. A much needed break, because apparently my addiction to gw2 is so bad, I can be let down by a company that doesnt care about its players.

What I Like About Dragon Response Missions

    Posted: 17 Nov 2020 06:23 PM PST

I was a big fan of season 1. When events happened in the maps I explored 'growing up' (leveling). It was fun to revisit the old maps where I had made memories and see how the story would change them forever. The peak of living world for me is still the assault on Lions Arch and how the central hub of the game would be changed forever.

I understand ArenaNet wanted to stop altering old maps so everyone got to experience the same game so they had to move away from that. As a result we now have new maps for the story to take place on.

Now what these Dragon Response Missions do is take us back to those old maps that we have memories on and allow us to play on them again. Downsides are that it's not open world so hopefully we see these increase past a 5 player limit. Also each of the missions is the same so it feels super repetitive which makes it feel grindy.

Not saying I don't want new maps but I do like revisiting old maps. I think a good mix of both would be ideal.

Would like to see these instances grow past 5 players, make it feel more open world. I even think this could get as big as a full instanced map from a different time. I'm thinking even as a throwback these could support the old assault on Lions Arch for players to be able to experience again.

TL;DR: I like visiting old maps with 'current story' events and this seems like a step in the direction for that.

You need 480 Prismaticite Crystals to complete the new dragon slayer weapon set, and its acquisition seem very slow

    Posted: 17 Nov 2020 07:50 PM PST

You need 3 prismatium ingots per weapon, each ingots costs 10 crystals and there are 16 weapons total, so 480 needed.

    Acquisition:

    One time

    • Achievement reward from buying all the recipes, I think you get 20

    • Story reward for playing through the instances from this release so far, about 10 total

    Daily

Playing dragon response missions: 1st time you get 3, 2nd time you get 2 and 3rd time you get 1

    Home instance gather - 1 or 2

    CM

Ground chest seems to give 1 crystal for every CM run

Adding these up, even if you do 3 CMs every day (which is around an hour btw of very boring game play), you still only get about 10 a day and need 6 weeks to complete it. These crystals and weapons are account bound as well, so you can't buy your way to the skins.

From datamine we saw the dragon slayer weapon set will get 2 more upgrades over upcoming "Champion" chapters, and every upgrade will likely require the "6-week" grind again.

Do you guys think maybe Anet should slightly reduce the amount required to craft? This first stage is exotic only after all.

Let me know if I missed any easy source of crystals.

    Marjory's response (mild spoiler-ish)

    Posted: 18 Nov 2020 04:17 AM PST

After the Gendarren Dragon response mission, upon talking to Marjory she sounded pretty annoyed when asked about Kasmeer, which I find pretty odd. These two were in different missions and I've lost track of their story so far. I was initially thinking of Kasmeer's Balthazar issue but given the timeline, seems a bit far?

    Anything I'm missing or so?

Another character I miss, Rox, ;/ Geez these few sure behave like guildmates who log off and only log in when there's a major patch.
