4:41 Dhuum record by Dispossession [dP]

    Posted: 27 Jul 2020 04:29 AM PDT

[MCA] recently posted a 4:56 which made us realize that the Dhuum record could be taken. The previous Dhuum record was 4:51, set by our guild 2 years ago! We decided to secure the record before another guild goes for it. It was long thought to be unbeatable due to how overpowered scourge was- the raw dps and not needing a druid or stealth. However, Arenanet has continuously powercrept the game to the point where a 40k DPS benchmark is normal. We saw the dominance of guardian for years, relying on "Feel My Wrath!" to create an optimal comp by dropping supports even if guardian wasn't the absolute best raw DPS class. In the last balance patch, Arenanet decided to throw a second nerf at FMW. In this same patch, they buffed chronomancer! Again! It seems the balance masterminds at Arenanet have forgotten that chronomancer can do the same trick as guardian. However, not only can they provide themselves quickness, but they also just so happen to be the absolute best sustained DPS in the game right now.

Since chrono is clearly busted, it was the obvious choice for Dhuum. Since we are running a power comp we went with a power renegade, which we found to be about equal dps-wise to running 2 condi RR rens but with the added safety of soulcleave healing. Our warrior also found himself lacking might uptime since he was green 1 and the druid was green 2, so he went power since it is similar dps contribution to condi but it generates itself might. We had our renegade tank the boss since tanking it on chrono was unreliable. (Otherwise, tanking it on a higher dps class is always better than a support.) Also, since we are lacking support classes to do the greens, whoever gets the second bomb will do it, and if it's the warrior we /gg. Our warrior also did an excellent job of baiting every shackle.

We decided not to do any delayed Continuum Splits for quickness uptime since the cooldown is perfect to use it again during the suction if you use it immediately at the start. Due to the delayed burst of chrono, we had to use CS as fast as possible since it would be nearly useless during the 10% ritual. We had the perfect amount of Time Warps to hard cast them for the duration of the fight. We also brought a Phantasmal Defender to buff every chrono's opening by 10% from Superiority Complex. Once Dhuum hits 50% we no longer need taunt for the damage bonus, so we felt that 1 being brought for our burst was enough.

Now it's time for me to go on a tangent about tanking pattern. The current "meta" tanking is to face Dhuum towards the throne, walk in front of him before he dips to ensure it goes into the throne, then move him towards the center a bit. This strategy came from SC's weaver record, but they dragged him nearly all the way to the center so their AoEs would continue hitting during suction. Groups nowadays minimize movement rather than going close to the center since renegade doesn't have long lasting AoEs and it would be a DPS loss. So, really they could tank the boss anywhere a few steps away from the circle, not just towards middle. In the 4:41 kill, Dhuum happened to dip on the tank so we went to the left of the throne, but we always just went the opposite direction he went since you want him to walk through the closer side of the circle. SO, finally, the reason we decided upon this tanking strategy is because we feel it is safer and minimizes movement more since we don't have to walk him very far out of the circle since when we rotated him 90 degrees we have all the space in the world behind us. Initially I wanted him to be tanked touching the circle, but that turned out to be trash for chrono due to Mirror Images randomly moving us as well as sword 3. However, with a FB/ren comp, tanking him as we did but with even less movement out of the circle is the best method.

Shout out to Sirius for being the best druid ever. Solo druid is the hardest role on Dhuum by far.

How to reach the End of the Chaos Fractal without hitting any Mob

    Posted: 27 Jul 2020 12:19 AM PDT

lately i was yet again looking for some fractal skips and after spending an hour or two inside the chaos fractal i managed to skip everything from start to end without hitting any mob.

I know that its completely useless because the boss doesn't spawn at the end but nevertheless i though it was fun and wanted to share it with you.

What do I do when I don't know why I was suspended and Arenanet won't tell me?

    Posted: 26 Jul 2020 04:43 PM PDT

What do I do when I don't know why I was suspended and Arenanet won't tell me?

I was recently suspended for three months for using unauthorized third-party tools. The only third-party tools I've used are WTFast to improve latency to make the game playable and GW2TacO which I haven't used since SAB. Many players use these third-party applications safely, so I doubt that either of these caused the ban.

I've contacted their customer support, but all of my attempts to understand what I did to trigger the ban have been stonewalled by rehashed replies that eventually resulted in the ticket being outright closed.

I understand that they have to be tight-lipped to prevent actual hackers from finding ways to exploit their detection systems, but the core issue for me is that if I don't know what I did wrong to begin with, then how am I supposed to avoid an even worse suspension for the same reason in the future?

The only incident I can think of that may have gotten my account flagged was that when I was opening chests in the northwest corner of Silverwastes, I kept getting teleported back to the previous chest every time I tried to open the next one. This happened for several minutes even when I decided to go to a different chest; I would always be ported back to the first chest I had opened. I didn't think much of it at the time because the EU rollbacks had happened not so long ago, so I thought the server was having hiccups again, and I don't think it was rubberbanding caused by latency because my skills were working fine. This isn't as outlandish as you might think: someone else has shown that weird porting issues definitely happen for bizarre reasons ( https://www.reddit.com/r/Guildwars2/comments/hurkog/i_was_moving_myself_above_and_under_water/ ). Unfortunately, I can't verify this with Anet because they refuse to talk to me about anything specific regarding the suspension.

I know Anet maintains confidence in their system and reviews, but I think it's worth pointing out that they've issued plenty of wrongful suspensions ( https://massivelyop.com/2019/01/29/guild-wars-2-cheat-suspensions-overturned/ ) that could have been prevented had they been a little more transparent about how they decide if the player is really at fault. Now that they've outright stopped responding to my inquiries, what other options do I have left?

TLDR: banned for 3rd party apps but i only use WTFast and GW2TacO, maybe related to weird porting i experienced in silverwastes, no idea because anet refuses to give any info and closed ticket, main concern is that if i don't know why i was banned now then it seems likely that i'll be banned again for even longer next time for the same mysterious reasons

Banned after using Geforce Now (support claims unauthorized access)

    Posted: 27 Jul 2020 07:59 AM PDT

Does anyone have experience dealing with customer support for being banned after playing the game with GeForce Now? I mentioned GeForce Now in the ticket, but support is claiming that my account had unauthorized access by a third party and is asking me to do a full list of things before regaining access. My account does have 2-factor auth enabled and this comes a day after using Geforce Now with GW2 for the first time, so I heavily doubt support's assertions.

    Any thoughts/suggestions?

What items should I immediately purchase from the Gem Store?

    Posted: 27 Jul 2020 03:28 AM PDT

Exactly what the title says. I'd like to know what items are no-brainers and should be purchased immediately. I've seen people suggesting the Copper-fed Salvage Tool? Also the Silver-fed one? But I'm not exactly sure how they work, I just know that they're QoL items.

Are there any other items I should get? Thanks in advance.

    Interesting fan theories and headcanons?

    Posted: 27 Jul 2020 05:42 AM PDT

Do any of you have any interesting theories or head canons about 'Guild Wars 1/2' or Tyria in general? I'll share first!

Head Canon: Not All Humans Were Brought to Tyria by the Gods: In the lore, it is said that humans were brought to Tyria from another planet by the 'Six Gods.' Some of the lore conflicts with this since it seems human society started at two different points. One when the human supposedly arrived, but there are records of a human society predating that. I think this is because the Six brought the humans to Tyria the continent from another world. There were already humans living in other parts of Tyria the planet when the Six brought humans from their original planet to Tyria the continent. I mainly say this is a head cannon since there really isn't any evidence to support it in game.

Theory: The Commander is Our Character from Guild Wars 1 Reborn: There are a few things that support it. If your GW2 and GW1 account are linked, Dunkoro says "Your spirit feels familiar" when you talk to him. Kimmes the Historian says that he recognizes "the worthiness of your soul, hero." There are a handful of other pieces of evidence, but those are the main ones.

    Mixing runes?

    Posted: 27 Jul 2020 08:12 AM PDT

I'm making my first set of ascended armour for my Tempest, and since I'm a super casual player I find myself getting squished quite a bit at times, so rather than using superior rune of strength for all armour pieces, could I put that one a few pieces, and say something like the superior rune of the herald on the rest? (Basing my armour and stats on the fresh air tempest build on metabattle). I mainly do pve including the expansions, if that helps. Thanks :)

Axe or Sword for HFB build?

    Posted: 27 Jul 2020 03:37 AM PDT

    Hey!

So I want to switch my DH DPS to a HFB because I find HFB having so much more value in a group. That's maybe a personal opinion but every time I did T3 or raids with a HFB it was a game changer.

Anyway, I checked builds online and apparently the meta is to play with a staff and an axe/shield combo. I also found out there is the same build with staff and sword/build.

I noticed that using the sword you get a gap closer which is really good but you loose a pull. My personal opinion tends to be that pulls are fairly common in GW2 and I don't feel like needing to bring an extra one while having a gap closer is great for mobility and that's always a plus.

Is there anything else I should take into account? I am pretty new to this game (I played it on release but stopped for years) so I may be missing something here.

    Any help is welcome! <3

EDIT: After reading the answers, there is a clear consensus on using an axe over a sword so I am definitely going to go for an axe. Thanks for your insight! (Also why did this post get downvoted?)
