    [SC] Trio Crucible of Eternity Path 2 [6:44]

    Posted: 24 May 2020 08:08 AM PDT

    Hey everyone,

    Roul/Guardian

    Hint/Engineer

    Zen/Mesmer

    We are happy to share our most recent dungeon speedrun. We based our comp on 5 decisive factors: The standard ones, namely quickness, mobility, dps, but also stealth and superspeed. Each of the chosen classes were important for fulfilling all of these requirements.

    The Engineer provided huge dps on every boss alongside being the source of stealth for the group as well as, most importantly, being able to apply permanent superspeed to the npc, which made her run significantly faster. On top of all of that he had access to a very effective moving fire field in form of Blast Gyro.

    The Mesmers most important job was taking care of the laser room, which he did by portaling himself from one console to the other. Due to his huge mobility, he also was responsible for pretriggering events, which saved a considerable amount of time. Finally, he also provided a significant amount of quickness to the entire party.

    The Guardian rounded up the quickness uptime with Feel my Wrath, the main source of quickness in this run. Later on, when he swapped to Firebrand, he was also taking Liberator's Vow , which served as another great quickness source. Thanks to this, the Chrono was able to go Domination instead of Illusions, and the Holo also could take more offensive utilities. Finally, he also brought Sanctuary to the Husk fight, which is a 5 pulse knockdown and allowed us to kill the Husk smoothly.

    All 3 of these classes have very good dps, which allowed for really fast Subject Alpha kills and also a really great Husk kill, as the comp had access to a lot of soft CC – the only way to break the boss – and knocks – which prevents her from using any attack for ~3 seconds.

    Thanks for watching and maybe also reading, hope you enjoy the run!

    How's Ele doing in PvE endgame?

    Posted: 24 May 2020 05:02 AM PDT

    Hey guys, currently leveling up my Ele and having a ton of fun with him, but since I'm always kinda out of the loop regarding the Raid/Frac/Strike meta, could anyone be so kind as to tell me in what ways Ele is being used right now?

    Personally, I am intrigued by the design of Tempest Heal/Support after looking at the traits, is this any good in raids and such?

    Thanks in advance, stay safe! :)

    Mesmer Open World Build: Dire Conditions of the Undead [NON-META]

    Posted: 23 May 2020 11:25 PM PDT

    Hello, I hope you're all doing well.

    I wanted to show you my Open World Mesmer Build. It is a non-meta build and will seem odd, even not viable, especially for those focussing on efficiency, performance and role execution. I created this build for my sight impaired girlfriend so that she can play along and still have fun dispite her inability to really "play". Following are the main criteria I had while creating the build:

    • survivability

    • range to avoid aggro and ground attacks

    • minions/pets/phantasms/etc for tanking

    • very little skill usage: auto-attack, no rotation, passive signets

    • avoidance of ground attacks and use of action camera to be able to play with a gamepad

    • "cool/flashy" skills, looks and animations > effectiveness

    • conditions to pop lots of numbers on the screen to give the impression of damage dealing and killing the enemy while being carried

    While testing I found myself having fun with this build nonetheless. Of course all encounters took ages because of the complete absence of power and burst damage. However, I was able to solo strong enemies with time and patience. I was able to roam areas with large enemy groups and I was able to escape alive when situations became more dangerous and critical while the clones drew aggro.

    In my opinion it is a nice alternative for the times we all have when we choose to have a lazy session but want to play something different than Necro/Reaper Power Minion Master. ;)

    A big thank you goes to u/ChmSteki for helping to improve this build. I appreciate all input and constructive criticism as there is always some aspect being overlooked and always something to learn.

    Have fun and make Tyria a safer place! :)

    whats your favorite quote from the game?

    Posted: 23 May 2020 11:02 AM PDT

    many years ago when gw2 was new and I embarked on my quest as a charr warrior of the blood legion. I reached a quest that I don't really recall the details of but one thing stuck with me.

    now this game is still to this day one of my favorite games in regards to music/story/characters.

    and how one of the greatest Rytlock Brimstone's lines from that quest is treated like some random npc text is criminal.

    that line is : " Rytlock Brimstone: Hah! Your new orders are to drop dead and commence rotting. "

    pure badass.

    this got me thinking what's your favorite quote from the game that made you laugh ? gave you chills? made you feel absolutely epic ? share it with me. reignite my love for the game.

    cheers

    Edit: wow guys, I might actually get the expansions and start playing again... I miss my charr.

    [Question] Alt-Accounts Daily To-do

    Posted: 23 May 2020 07:29 PM PDT

    Hello guys!

    With the recent sale I bought 2 additional accounts to support my main account via various benefits.

    Here are the things I know/do on the daily when I have time:

    1) Log-in Rewards 2) Parked Character for chest rewards 3) Daily (Mainly PvP, I find it the easiest to complete)

    So my question is, for all of you who has multiple accounts as well what other things do you do on your alts that's not on my list? I want to know my options.

    Thanks so much!!

    Compilation of Wine Related Optimizations

    Posted: 23 May 2020 01:07 PM PDT

    Here is a compilation of wine (Linux) related optimizations that I came across and for which I tried to figure out how they are installed. Hopefully this can help somebody else as well. This applies to Manjaro and probably to plain Arch too.

    Basic setup

    Create a fake Windows environment (adjust that path for your needs):

    WINEPREFIX=/mnt/games/GW2/ wine64 winecfg

    And also set the windows version to "Windows 10" in winecfg

    Now proceed as described here https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Guild_Wars_2_on_Wine#Manual_install

    Replace /mnt/games/GW2 in the commands here with wherever your wineprefix is (the folder that contains a drive_c subfolder) that has your gw2 files.

    Either use lutris or use the command line. when using both, my changes were overwritten by lutris every time or something.

    To run gw2 without any optimizations for now, I have to run:

    WINEPREFIX=/mnt/games/GW2/ WINEARCH=win64 wine64 /mnt/games/GW2/drive_c/Program\ Files/Guild\ Wars\ 2/Gw2-64.exe

    Here are some options for optimizing:

    1. gallium-nine

    This only works on opensource Mesa drivers. Nvidia proprietary drivers are not supported. AMD cards have good open source drivers, and I think they are already properly installed by default for a fresh Manjaro installation.

    There is also the prorprietary "AMDGPU-PRO" driver, which is based on the open source ones or something, but that does not offer better gaming performance and it also doesn't work with gallium-nine afaik. (https://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page=article&item=mesa-201aco-amd&num=1)

    Information on how to use gallium-nine was very sparse when I came across it. But it's actually very simple

    sudo pacman -S wine-nine

    Open ui to activate gallium nine by running:

    WINEPREFIX=/mnt/games/GW2/ wine64 ninewinecfg

    When starting the game, the console should display you in green that the support is active and which version.

    In order to get some other options for gallium-nine versions:

    WINEPREFIX=/mnt/games/GW2/ WINEARCH=win64 winetricks

    in the winetricks gui, navigate: - default prefix - install component - add the gallium version you want

    In order to get the most recent gallium-nine version, it can also be installed from the AUR:

    pacaur -S gallium-nine-git WINEPREFIX=/mnt/games/GW2/ nine-install

    Having a new gallium-nine version and an old wine version caused it to crash. For me, gallium-nine causes buggy textures or something and stuttering when turning the view, so I'm not using it. Both with old and new wine and gallium-nine

    2. dxvk

    d9vk is now part of dxvk (see readme of https://github.com/Joshua-Ashton/d9vk) "A Vulkan-based translation layer for Direct3D 9" (https://github.com/doitsujin/dxvk)

    pacaur -S dxvk-bin WINEPREFIX=/mnt/games/GW2/ setup_dxvk install

    You can either run gallium-nine or dxvk, but not both at the same time (sorry don't have the source of that information at hand)

    If gallium-nine gets enabled, the command to install dxvk must be executed again after gallium-nine is disabled.

    With active dxvk I get a ton of log messages, like "info: DXVK: v1.7", which is how I verify it is properly installed.

    For me, dxvk seems to have equal or better performance than gallium-nine and runs without bugs.

    https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Command_line_arguments recommends not to use -dx9single when dxvk is used

    3. Running a wine version that was downloaded via lutris

    I'm using wine-staging 5.8 from the arch repos, but in case you need some other wine version for whichever reason, here is one method:

    Open lutris. on the left hand side, there is the "Runners" list. Install the "Wine runner" via the hamburger icon (≡). Configure the Wine runner via the box icon (or whatever that is supposedto be) and install some version.

    The installed wine version can then be started by using a path like this:

    WINEPREFIX=/mnt/games/GW2/ WINEARCH=win64 ~/.local/share/lutris/runners/wine/lutris-5.5-2-x86_64/bin/wine64 /mnt/games/GW2/drive_c/Program\ Files/Guild\ Wars\ 2/Gw2-64.exe

    4. ACO

    This only works for AMD GPUs

    Since Mesa 20 RADV/ACO seems to be a good choice. Here are some benchmarks, no gw2 benchmark though: https://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page=article&item=mesa20radv-aco-amdvlk&num=1

    WINEPREFIX=/mnt/games/GW2/ RADV_PERFTEST=aco wine64 /mnt/games/GW2/drive_c/Program\ Files/Guild\ Wars\ 2/Gw2-64.exe

    To check if it works, check the console output. search for: "WARNING: Experimental compiler backend enabled. Here be dragons! Incorrect rendering, GPU hangs and/or resets are likely"

    5. Optimizations from the wiki

    See https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Guild_Wars_2_on_Wine

    But I believe the ln command in the wiki is wrong. They try to create a symlink from /tmp/mesa to ~/.cache/mesa_shader_cache, which means, that if I create a file in /tmp/mesa, it will actually created in ~/.cache, on my regular hard disk, or is that wrong? Isn't the goal that if a file in ~/.cache/mesa_shader_cache is created, it is actually created on the ramdisk?

    Furthermore, https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Command_line_arguments says that -dx9single should not be used together with dxvk. And this absolutely seems to be true for me performance-wise!

    cd ~/.cache/ rm mesa_shader_cache -r ln -s /tmp/mesa_shader_cache mesa_shader_cache WINEPREFIX=/mnt/games/GW2/ winetricks d3dx9 WINEPREFIX=/mnt/games/GW2/ WINEESYNC=1 WINEARCH=win64 WINEDEBUG=-all wine64 /mnt/games/GW2/drive_c/Program\ Files/Guild\ Wars\ 2/Gw2-64.exe -dx9single

    The WINEARCH=win64 variable I have been using all the time is also recommended in the wiki under "Manual install", so I included it everywhere idk

    6. esync

    All you need to do is to add WINEESYNC=1 to your command, like:

    WINEPREFIX=/mnt/games/GW2/ WINEARCH=win64 wine64 /mnt/games/GW2/drive_c/Program\ Files/Guild\ Wars\ 2/Gw2-64.exe

    This seems to be rather important for performance

    7. fsync

    Fsync is rather new and developed by valve and seems to be a replacement for esync. It is not yet properly merged into linux, but it can already be added. I did not try this myself though, but here is what I found out:

    https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Steam#Fsync_patch

    Install the linux-zen kernel for example, which is in the main repos and not AUR which I find trustworthy. Boot it

    For manjaro, the linux-zen package is missing however.

    (Furthermore, one person has had a good experience with the zen kernel scheduler: https://en-forum.guildwars2.com/discussion/comment/1131340/#Comment_1131340)

    use WINEFSYNC instead of WINEESYNC, like:

    WINEPREFIX=/mnt/games/GW2/ WINEFSYNC=1 WINEARCH=win64 wine64 /mnt/games/GW2/drive_c/Program\ Files/Guild\ Wars\ 2/Gw2-64.exe -dx9single

    https://www.reddit.com/r/linux_gaming/comments/f9skvp/how_to_know_if_fsync_is_working_or_not/

    8. gamemode

    Thanks to RelZo. You can use gamemode, which enables system optimizations while the game is running. https://github.com/FeralInteractive/gamemode

    sudo pacman -S gamemode gamemoderun WINEPREFIX=/mnt/games/GW2/ WINEARCH=win64 wine64 /mnt/games/GW2/drive_c/Program\ Files/Guild\ Wars\ 2/Gw2-64.exe

    In order to test if gamemode is properly working, you can use those commands:

    gamemoded -t gamemoded -r

    What I'm using to run now

    I ended up using dxvk and the following command:

    gamemoderun WINEPREFIX=/mnt/games/GW2/ WINEESYNC=1 WINEARCH=win64 WINEDEBUG=-all RADV_PERFTEST=aco wine64 /mnt/games/GW2/drive_c/Program\ Files/Guild\ Wars\ 2/Gw2-64.exe

    I get no stuttering while turning the view. The wiki says that can be caused by a slow hard drive, so I installed it on an nvme M.2 SSD to make sure.

    GW2's performance on Linux is indeed very enjoyable for me.

    In lions arch fps range between ~30fps in the crafting area to ~45fps in front of the bank.

    Raids, dungeons, pvp, pve, story and fractals work really good. Boneskinner gives me 50-70fps during the fight, 110-130fps while idle and not started.

    Those numbers were collected with the following graphics options: My character limit was "High" and character quality "Low". Both have significant influence on the performance, play around and see what you like. Shaders "High", Shadows "High", Reflections "Terrain & Sky", LOD "Ultra", Textures "High", Environment "High"

    The CPU seems to be bottlenecking when a bunch of players are around because the GPU is not completely busy. It is also very well known that GW2 needs a high single core performance. CPU is a ryzen 5 3600.

    Returned with some friends, but faced a wall with WvW

    Posted: 24 May 2020 06:11 AM PDT

    Hi guys

    Returning player brought back by some friends who're only starting with gw2. Here is the situation:

    I'm on SFR (EU server) and always was, most of my friends (who come back from time to time) are there as well. My new friends, however, are not given any way to create characters or transfer to my server because it's labelled as full. And I would like them to enjoy WvW with me sometime. I could technically transfer to their server, but my original friends play mostly WvW, and I'll loose the ability to play with them.

    So, questions:

    1. Is there a way for my friends to transfer/start on my server?
    2. If no, is there any way we can play WvW together? I heard EotM can be played independently, and something about guesting.

    Issue: Turning causes FPS drop

    Posted: 23 May 2020 05:51 PM PDT

    Hello guys,

    I'm having an issue with my FPS as of late. Anytime I move my mouse cursor to look left or right I get a significant FPS drop. Moving it to look up or down doesn't cause any FPS drop though. Does anyone know of a solution? I've played the game before and never have had this issue, with the issue I lose about 40 - 60 FPS alone. I normally can maintain 100 FPS when idle, and 60 - 70 FPS in combat.

    My parts: (I know this is probably not going to be an issue but it's best to just say them in case.)

    i7-4790k

    16gb RAM

    RTX 2080

    The game is placed in my NVME SSD, I have tested moving it to my primary SSD but I still get the FPS drops.

    Thank you!

    How do you order your bank tabs?

    Posted: 24 May 2020 03:05 AM PDT

    I am in the process of make the order of my bank tabs more efficient. I have bank tabs for fractal stuff, raid KP, foods, ascended weapons, ascended armour, material overflow etc. etc.

    What order do you arrange your bank tabs from top to bottom to calm your OCD and improve efficieny?
