    [MEGATHREAD] October 2019 Ban Wave.

    Posted: 19 Oct 2019 02:45 PM PDT

New threads on the situation will be removed and all future discussion should remain here or in the existing posts, until/unless there is an official statement from ArenaNet in which case discussion will move there and a new megathread will be made if necessarily.

We are going ahead and making this thread to deal with the flood of posts we know are coming. Existing posts will not be locked and will remain up with reports ignored.

Right now it appears as though users using a modified ArcDPS with templates enabled were banned today. Information is unconfirmed and some people saying they have never used ArcDPS have said they were banned today as well as dormant accounts being banned. As with all bans ANet does not explain the reason behind them so we right now are in the dark as to what is really happening.

Moa Mount Idea (For Free to Play Players)

    Posted: 19 Oct 2019 05:44 PM PDT

So I've just recently gotten a number of my friends into GW2 and they're really enjoying it, most of them are free to play, but a couple have got the expansions and are just wanting to go and level a character to 80 first to get a hang of things, but all of them have at some point stated that they really wish they could have a mount, and so from there comes my suggestion.

A Moa Mount. A simple little mount that shares the low base (Grounded) movement speed of Skyscales and Griffons, but would still be faster for players. Doesn't have any masteries, since this is one intended for free players and they don't have access to that (Though could always have it to encourage them to buy the game in order to boost up a mount they've came to enjoy). It's special movement thing is that it has a double jump, where after jumping it can flap its wings to gain a little bit of extra height or to soften fall damage if timed right. It's dismount ability being a simple peck attack, just inflicting a bit of damage and not much else.

This can help players to get a hang of how mounts work, and get them hyped for getting better ones in Path of Fire, or (If you go the route of giving it a mastery) to get excited to boost it up using mastery, plus it helps new players not feel so left out with all the mounts and such. It could be done as a little collection players could get directed to at Lions Arch (Which would be about level 35 for free players). Nothing too major, perhaps going about and finding a bunch of different moa eggs around area's where different coloured Moa reside, maybe crafting some feed for your new moa and a saddle, so it's like a bit of a hint of the vast collections to unlock stuff like the skyscale and griffon and the journey's they'll take you on to earn them.

By doing this, free to play players can both have a mount which they can enjoy using to not feel left out with it all (Seriously, who hasn't wanted to ride a Moa at one point in this?). It serves as an introduction to all the mechanics surrounding them, has it's own unique movement mechanic to differentiate it from the rest, but one that's outclassed by other mounts so that there's still plenty of incentive to get the full game and those mounts.

The Developer/Community Rapport is in Tatters

    Posted: 19 Oct 2019 12:49 PM PDT

Situation is dire. Developer morale is incredibly low, community faith is equally diminished. The relationship between us is really bad right now, I think there's this sense of Us and Them from both sides.

The build template disaster is one thing, and now reading about this banwave just makes me feel worse about it because I know the backlash is going to hit hard.

I should point out it was people using a modified build template dll that got banned, but I also think the aggressive response to this felt inappropriate and insensitive. It felt a bit like salting an already wounded playerbase.

At this point I feel like we need hope and positivity to move forward. I want to praise the developers when they release things, I want to feel optimistic about the game and it's future.

But right now with Icebrood Saga, build templates and further departures from the company the community feels underwhelmed and concerned.

Guild Wars 2 needs a lifeline atm. And it isn't Icebrood Saga or badly implemented build templates. We need some giga level hype and positivity to get through this.

I hope the devs are tough enough to weather this storm and steer this ship around or Guild Wars 2 is doomed.

Banned without even using ArcDPS or any add-ons for months?

    Posted: 19 Oct 2019 01:39 PM PDT

Am I the only one who got hit by this. I haven't played this game properly in months (haven't had arc on my computer for a while now). I have an average 1-2 hours of gametime a week just to check story or TP and I haven't even logged in since the template changes rolled out even lol

Gonna be submitting a ticket just want to know if I'm alone on this.

    Concerning Player Privacy

    Posted: 19 Oct 2019 05:01 PM PDT

I'd like to take some time to bring focus on a very overlooked problem that has been present in this game since its inception, that is a problem of player privacy. Guild Wars 2 leaks a large amount of player information pertaining to their location, their presence and others. I've lived with this for seven years and honestly find this quite unacceptable at this point. The fact nobody is even willing to address this for so long is disappointing.

Please note, while I'm personally not a fan of the followers function of the social panel, I'll not count that as it's a feature that is working as intended and wouldn't be considered buggy.

In hopes of bringing attention to the issue these are some of the problems that currently exist:

APPEAR OFFLINE PRESENCE. There's a very glaring fault regarding this presence being as it does not in any way hide your online status from other players. Your location in the game as well as your level and class are consistently being updated by the game and displayed on the friends lists of mutuals. Being as the whole point of this presence is to not show your online status, this handily defeats it in its entirety.
Additionally, sorting players by map will arrange players who are appearing offline nested inbetween online players as if they were indeed online.

PARTIES AND GROUPS. Guild Wars 2 at all time exposes your party status to other players. If you right click on someone's name, you will be presented with an option to invite the person to group. Pretty straightforward and innocuous. What's not so much so, is the fact that the game will adjust this option dynamically based on the target's group status. Namely, it will either show "Invite to Party" if the player is alone or "Join Party" if the player is grouped. If you're both in a group, the option will be missing. Squads also display as "Join Squad" if such exists.
Furthermore, I brought this up in a separate post, but I'll bring it up again: Squads override parties. Inviting partied people to a squad will invite everyone in group and display who was invited, effectively showing you who was in the group without their consent. While I'd prefer if this invite bounced altogether, I think an option to toggle group lock would be an agreeable alternative.

MAP LOCATIONS. There is a fairly consistent bug which causes previous party and squad members to appear on your map after the group has disbanded, live updating much like they would normally. I think the problem is fairly obvious here. Representing a guild while appearing offline also doesn't affect whether your map location is shown or not, you will always be displayed on the map.

It's quite possible that there are more but this is all that immediately comes to mind. Now, you may immediately dismiss this as a minor issue which is largely irrelevant, however please keep in mind that these flawed features can be used as a tool for harassment in no uncertain terms. I'm making this statement because I believe these are issues that should be taken seriously and patched.

    Thank you for your time.

    Data collection on bans

    Posted: 19 Oct 2019 02:06 PM PDT

I was thinking that it might be a good idea to collect some data on the recent bans, so if people were to comment their ban reason (if any), add-ons used, and region that would be cool!

Why is Lion's Arch a completely different city in the personal story compared to open world?

    Posted: 20 Oct 2019 07:31 AM PDT

    Edit: Thank you, everyone!

Hey folks, I'm a new player and curious if there's anything to it. Not just the architecture seems completely different, even looking at the map makes it seem like a different city.

Are open world and personal story instances at different points in "history"? Will this be explained at some point in the story?

What's Coming To The Gem Store?

Is it possible to see what is coming to the Gem store soon?

Also, I couldn't find an answer to this anywere. Are the "Location" and "Object" markers commander only? I set up hot keys for them but they don't do anything even with my Mentor tag on.
