    RIP the dream.

They do confirm an abundant presence of them in EoD and there are lore reasons behind this, so expect Tengus to play a bigger role.

    But yeah, mesad :(

Glad at least they clarified this.

    Bonus: Floof

Welcome Mat looks suspiciously like the GW2 logo dragon

So I was randomly browsing through Amazon today until this welcome mat caught my eye. It looks just like the GW2 dragon logo. Yet in the description it never mentions anything about Guild Wars 2, only that its for "roleplaying." "A great gift for your Dungeons and Dragons loving friend that just moved into a new home."

Anyone know if this is legal?

[Spoilers] Some things I noticed about the new map/livestream

    Posted: 12 Nov 2021 01:03 PM PST

    • Kurzick and Luxon culture nuked by Ministry of Purity. Still some people who embrace their heritage. Kurzick heritage girl had new hairstyle with some face paint, but didn't really look like the Kurzicks of old.

    • Every Kurzick building shown is abandoned/jadefied, however old concept art still shows ''restored'' Kurzick buildings. Cemetry looked quite intact. Devs teased about not showing everything.

    • Kurzicks and Luxons no longer hate eachother, some individuals still harbor hate, all of them are ''united'' against the ''wild factions'' (Jade Brotherhood and Speakers).

    • 45 points of interests in map

    • (Neo) Jade Brotherhood seems like a modernist faction (green Inquest) and Speakers traditionalists. Jade Brotherhood uses all kind of Jade Robots.

    • Arborstone strike mission teased.

    • Lutgardis Conservatory turned into lake?

    • Fort Aspenwood turned into base of operations of (neo) Jade Brotherhood.

    • Some abandoned gothic architecture looks massive (more than in Gw1).

    • Amber mines seen, didn't look abandoned.

    • Tengu villages very prevalent, they have their unique kind of asian architecture. Tengu not playable. Kestrels are a faction of inclusive Tengu (they recruit humans now too) that hid the tengu from the Ministery of Purity.

    • In the meta you help the villages fight the Jade Brotherhood and Speakers ''with an epic finale''.

2 weird things that probably don't mean anything

    • Guild Wars 2 Twitch Chat account was talking about siege turtles AND juggernauts.

    • Bright Caledon Forest flower was placed in an area that really didn't fit its theme.

Combat Tonics should be able to mount

Pressing the mount key should automatically remove the combat tonic and mount you and then unmounting should automatically reapply the combat tonic

Recently there was an update to allow you to mount in Holoforge / Reaper Shroud / Celestial Avatar

There was also an update a long time ago that would auto respawn minions you had after mounting

During the stream, Kirk was walking around as a Catalyst and did get into some combat. He was in developer god-mode, so these may not necessarily be representative of normal gameplay, but these are the differences I saw.

    • Energy doesn't drain out of combat.
    • Sphere seems to be set duration(5 sec ish) with a cooldown.
    • Sphere cooldown and duration seem to be equal, allowing for 100% uptime.

Why are there basically no new animations for the Elite Specs?

    Posted: 12 Nov 2021 06:18 AM PST

Looking at the footage for the new elite specs, basically almost all of the animations are reused, only a handful are new and not taken straight from older skills.

I don't think that ANet is an indie company, couldn't they afford to make some new animations?

What do you think about this?

Alternative safe raid comp (no druid no chrono)

    Posted: 12 Nov 2021 12:15 PM PST

    Hi everyone,

It's been a few weeks that we play a "new" compo in raid and I want to share our experience about it.

First of all, mandatory apologies for my English, it is not my first language

The first idea that lead us to go by this comp was that we canted to add a heal Scourge to our compo.

Sadly, the Druid/hScourge combo meant that one of our two groups often lacked some boons, aside from Might/Fury/Alac/Quickness. Regen/Prot/Speed weren't at a great uptime - this really depends on playing with a chrono or not, and if this chrono uses Pack rune and/or Inspiration build or not.

Nowadays, Chrono often play offensive builds without Rune of the Pack / Inspiration traits ; our hScourge subgroup then suffered from low boons uptime.

We tried to add a hFB on top of the Druid/Scourge duo, and that worked really well, but meant we were then running with 3 healers. And even then, if we didn't have a chrono, the prot uptime was still a bit low. In addition, HFB had to bring regen mantra even if no clean condi was needed (which let him only have 1 free skill).

What we wanted was to find the safest compo, with as few healers as possible (our objective was to stay at 2 healers or low-DPS supports - qFB, Mirage/Renegade Alac or BS can all bring a fair amount of DPS)

This makes it less punitive to lose a DPS player, since aside from your 2 healers, all of your supports provide decent DPS. I believe it's best to have plenty of people that do a good dps rathen than to have only a few people doing great DPS (but it's my point of view).

So, after some amount of testing, we came up with this compo to maximize boon uptime/damage mitigation, and DPS:

    Herald Heal / QFB / Miralac / 2dps

    Scourge Heal / QFB / BS / 2dps

As you can see, the main change from meta is to bring an herald heal.

I found that herald heal is the must underestimated healer/booner. He provide speed/prot/regen/fury for 10 (+some might), add 20% boons on squad during dragon stance and brings the most efficient Regeneration, along with some massive healing skills with Ventari.

If you have installed arcdps_healing_stats, you should know how regen is your main healing source. And on Herald, your regen gets on steroids. You can get an approximate 1k/sec regen in dragon stance and an 2k/sec regen in ventari (regen+FacetOfNature+tabletPassiv all pulse periodic healing).

The herald can easily replace the chrono as the tank on most bosses, with its staff and shield as blocking options. Like that, you can drop the chrono and bring QFBs everywhere for 10 men Quickness. Plus, you bring to your squad of the best CC in game with its fifth staff skill.

But herald heal has some disavantages too:

    - Unlike druid, he can't provide full might for 10 (only between 10/15 stacks). This is why we use a miralac instead of a Renegade: Miralac provides Alac + Might to your whole squad. An other possibility to cover it is to bring a tempest dps to cover it with warhorn but we choose to play Miralac everywhere to no block one of our DPS players on a specific class.

    - He can't push like druid on desmina and doesn't have access to root.

    - He doesn't provide spirit buff or spotter. Though we don't mind much not having Spotter (we don't have to keep changing groups whenever someone rerolls and suddenly needs this buff), I can see it being troublesome for some players.

    Build : http://gw2skills.net/editor/?PmwAYx7lpQJMLiidRTMMqiJShsCagn+UZrE-zRJYjRNfZUdFkeK47s0+mF-e

Since our herald provides all these boons for 10, we can bring a scourge as second healer. I think i don't need to explain why scourge heal is so otherpowered ^^. Scourge has huge cc, grab, projectil destruction, epidemic... And obviously, it brings a huge amount of barrier. Such a S tier spec.

With herald healing (and on low pressure boss), scourge heal is of course not needed on all boss. Our scourge switch between pure dps or dps with Blood Magic traits line (rez trait) or heal depending on boss. It could stay heal everywhere for more safety, of course - it's just that our Scourge players like to be able to switch to more offensive builds sometimes.

An alternative comp to ours is to replace herald heal with a Tempest heal. Tempest provides a bit less heal but brings vigor on 10, Rebound and you can then drop Miralac to take an Alacnagade if you feel like it. But you will have bring another tank on high pressure bosses like Qadim the Peerless, as Tempests have more trouble with this (a qFB can go hFB or chronotank for these bosses).

We played both during some time (swiching our support player) but we choose to go with herald heal since this allows us to minimize rerolls between bosses: only our DPS players are switching between bosses if they want/need to.

The only boss that we don't play with herald heal is Desmina. Druid push on adds is so much better than every other spec, we didn't replace it here.

Other utility skill from druid/hfb/chrono are easy replace by herald/scourge/qfb

For example, VG is not a problem for push for Herald, as tablet explosion or elite dragon push can provide enough.

As for Gorseval, we just replaced Entagle by a split of the squad - each group goes to kill 2 adds.

Every grab can be done by scourge and QFB, all utility skill of HFB can be done by both QFB...

If you want some safty or simplicity on boss, you can use a HFB instead of a QFB (like us on some boss like Qadim, Cairn or Deimos)

It's a safe compo that you earn time and energy by switching build and not classes (network connection of some is really poor)

You can switch scourge dps to plague hybride or heal

You can switch qfb to hybride by switching utilities (stab, sanctu, reflect, rez signet...) or heal

You lost some secondes by playing safer instead of loosing minutes by wiping

Finally, in our static we win plenty of time by not swapping compo/group on everyboss and run our 5 CM every monday.

    Lost Lore: C.L.E.A.N. 5000

    Posted: 11 Nov 2021 06:12 PM PST

I'm back after some more lore sleuthing with another lore connection I don't believe anyone has formally put together yet. Now this one was a bit of a low-hanging fruit, so I'm sure there are some players who figured it out and just didn't say anything, but I thought it was cool enough to share since most people seem not to have.

    So here it is.

Before the events of guild wars 2, there was an Inquest research facility in Metrica Province called the Thaumanova Reactor. Players who frequent fractals will be intimately acquainted with the thaumanova reactor, but for anyone out of the loop, it was a facility where the Inquest were studying a mysterious force that at the time they coined "chaos energy". Aiding them in this research was a special consultant by the name of Scarlet Briar, but it turned out the Inquest were being manipulated.

Scarlet had tricked them into doing her own research there on the ley lines, and in the process instigated a catastrophic meltdown that obliterated the facility. She also mentions in her dialogue in the fractal that chaos energy is a misnomer, and that what the Inquest were studying was in fact dragon energy.

While all this happened before the events of gw2, the remnants of this lab can still be explored in Metrica Province and it is home to one of the first world bosses, the Fire Elemental.

To start this encounter, you first must interact with an NPC named Rooba. She is an Asura and part of the C.L.E.A.N. krewe, who have made it their mission to clean up the mess left by the melt down of the thaumanova reactor core. If you talk to her before the event, she'll tell you about the Thaumanova Reactor and explain how the chaos magic leaking from it is contaminating the region, but that she thinks her golems can fix it.

Just behind Rooba you'll find her krewe, but also a strange golem with the moniker C.L.E.A.N. 5000. Next to the golem is Rooba's assistant, and he'll tell you more about it. He explains that the golem is special because unlike most golems that generate heat through their functions, the 5000 has a special power core that allows it to absorb the heat instead. He admits the golem is remarkable, but also mentions he's concerned by how much Rooba cares for it.

When pressed, he elaborates that Rooba seems to talk to and treat the golem like it's another Asura! He even goes so far as to say he believes she'd give her life to protect it.

The event itself attests to the strong feelings Rooba has for C.L.E.A.N. 5000. At the start of the event, she kindly beckons the golem to accompany her, and her assistant reminds her from a distance that he's "just a golem". While escorting it about the facility to absorb the chaos magic, Rooba freaks out at the prospect of the Inquest even touching him and panics over creatures coming near. Additionally, when the golem's special power core is eventually overloaded and we defeat the colossal fire elemental it spawns, she laments the death of her golem, exclaiming, "Oh no. My dear 5000. This world didn't deserve you."

There's quite a lot of cute dialogue throughout this event from Rooba toward the C.L.E.A.N. 5000, and unsurprisingly many in the community view it as a joke about how she is romantically involved with her golem.

However amusing the idea may be that Rooba is living out some Snargle Goldclaw-inspired romance with her inanimate companion, though, it's far from the truth. The real story is much deeper.

Metrica Province is a region of Tyria brimming with history; specifically for the Asura. While the Rata Sum we know from Guild Wars 2 is a giant floating cube, it began as a land-based hub, and Metrica Province is the vestige of that humble beginning. While you will find many a modern-day golemancy lab nestled closely together just below the floating city, further beyond lie the forgotten labs of golemancy's greatest heroes.

One such lab can be found on the eastern edge of the map in the Akk Wilds, and it is heavily warded. Outside is a krewe led by an Asuran researcher named Orl who says he's been trying to open the door for weeks, and if you can catch him before he figures out how to open it, he'll explain that he's spent years and a grand fortune trying to find this lab and that it once belonged to someone named Oola.

Asking him who she is will get you thoroughly reprimanded, but he'll tell you she was a legendary Asura and the mother of golemancy. Guild Wars 1 players will know of Oola. Back in the Eye of the North campaign, she utilized her golems to help fight off the destroyers and prevent them from storming Rata Sum. Well, in gw2 we are able to explore her old lab and it just so happens to be one of the game's mini-dungeons.

Most players probably have never stepped foot in here, and for good reason: it's kind of complicated to get in. After Orl opens the first gate, he comes to a second that seems much more secure. He commends Oola for her genius in creating two doors to her lab, then regretfully informs you that he can't bust in. When you ask why, he says the door is far more elaborate than the last, and that it requires a special crystal key to unlock. This key is why many players won't have played through this content.

The key you need is called an "Energy Crystal", and it drops from creatures in Metrica Province. Nowadays you can just buy the key off the trading post, but before April 2016 it was a soulbound item, meaning you had to get it to drop for yourself on the character you wanted to play the dungeon with. Orl and his krewe will wait around indefinitely for you to find it, but most casual players aren't going to know to do this and looking for a non-descript rng-drop trophy can be pretty tedious, especially in a starter zone with so much other content vying for your attention. But I digress.

Once you insert the energy crystal into the matrix imprint lock, the door will open and the mini-dungeon will commence.

The lab seems abandoned, but within are a plethora of turrets and a wide variety of ominous green golems. As you progress through the dungeon, these golems will activate and attack, but they are easy enough to manage. The dungeon as a whole is incredibly simple, but what's important is the story.

As the dungeon progresses, Orl slowly uncovers the secret of Oola's research, and he eventually surmises she was using necromancy in the creation of these golems. His theory is proven correct when we encounter the ghost of Oola herself, and she isn't happy to see us. She remarks that death has only improved her understanding of the world and that she won't allow us to abscond with her things.

We fight Oola's ghost and a nearby golem she possesses, but when we defeat her, she doesn't disappear. She coalesces again and arms her security system. Hearing this, Orl chickens out and decides to grab what he can and go. And that's the end of it.

However, that's not all the dungeon has to offer. If you're good at multi-tasking, there are plenty of interactables in the lab that tell Oola's story. First are her notes littered about. They contain lists of things she wanted to do and some great throwbacks to the Trials of Zinn with some excellent last digs at him from centuries past. More importantly though are her holoprojector diaries.

These detail her triumphs in merging the studies of necromancy and golemancy together. The first is outside the dungeon's second door and only serves to explain how she set up the matrix imprint lock. The second is in a small side room within the dungeon, and details her success in merging necromancy and golemancy, but also alludes to a future endeavor of hers to create the perfect necromantic core.

The third is the most enlightening, but you might miss it. It hides at the end of the dungeon, past Oola's ghost, but in the opposite direction of where Orl and his krewe run to escape. If you follow them out, you'll not see it and be none the wiser. And even if you didn't follow Orl out, the turrets will activate as soon as he leaves, and for most players that's enough to scare them off before exploring. But if you stick around and play the final message, you learn about Oola's fate.

She says that this will be her final message, but also that she has no regrets. She dabbled too deeply in the necrotic arts, but in doing so she states she made her greatest triumph: Oola had merged her own essence into the core of her golem. The end of the message states, "There's no telling where this journey will take me. I have achieved the greatest feat of any golemancer: I am one with my OOL-99L. When I die, my essence will carry on with it."

Oola had merged her essence into the power core of her golem, the OOL-99L, effectively tethering her soul to this world through that golem. So where is this golem?

There were plenty of golems in her lab that it could be, especially the final one...but its name was OOL-999l...and when we destroyed all the golems (including OOL-999l), her ghost remained. Therefore we know it can't be any of those, so again, where is this golem???

Well, I left out a pretty important detail about the C.L.E.A.N. 5000: it too is a green golem. More precisely, it is the exact same model (just a bit larger) of the many OOL-013s golems you fight in Oola's lab. Rooba isn't some creep who's in love with her golem, she found Oola's OOL-99L and retrofitted it to clean up the Thaumanova Reactor!

And she's been talking to it like an Asura because it is an Asura. Not just any Asura, mind you, but the mother of all golemancy; a legend of her people. Somehow, she got her hands on this golem and formed a lasting bond with it, and now the line she delivers at the end of the Fire Elemental encounter makes a lot more sense. It's an homage to Oola's life as a whole, and a great conclusion to her story by the devs. Very cool.

Okay, but maybe you're one of the people who doesn't buy the connection. Couldn't it be some random green golem? I've seen some other green golems just in the map above in Brisban, why couldn't the devs have just decided it was a green golem? Here's why: C.L.E.A.N. 5000 isn't actually a green golem, it's only green because of the necromantic energies inside of it.

In the Fire Elemental fight, just as C.L.E.A.N. 5000 is finishing up collecting the chaos magic, he and Rooba have a hysterical exchange about him holding in the energy, but right as it becomes apparent he won't be able to, something changes...more specifically, his model changes.

As the flames engulf him, his model turns into that of a common garden variety D-series golem, and when the Fire Elemental eventually is defeated, what remains is the corpse of a regular golem; devoid of all necromantic energies.

    Crazy.

In doing research for this post, I came across a lot of theories about how Oola could be reincorporated into the story since her ghost is still around, but I'd guess once the golem died and the Fire Elemental was dealt with, Oola's spirit was set free (or annihilated, but that seems kinda dark).

Anyway, this ended up being a lot longer than I expected, but hopefully it was still a fun revelation despite it not being integral to the plot of gw2. Although, I do think there's a lot to look into regarding the legacy of Oola's necromancy golems in the rest of the overworld and what her breakthrough means for golems in general.

I definitely feel a lot more for Scruffy 1.0 now that I know how real their magical cores can end up being. Maybe it even is an insight into the nature of dragon magic and how it can be stored, idk.

End of Dragons will answer everything hopefully :)

Legendary armory but for infinite gathering tools?

    Posted: 11 Nov 2021 02:51 PM PST

Now that we are able to equip the same item on more than one character, could we have the same tech, but for infinite gathering tools?

As they are account bound that would make sense right?

It is my understanding that some people already paid good money for 3 shared slots to be able to equip/unequip/put in share slot so that they could overcome this "limitation".

But if this is a financial question for anet, allowing every infinite gathering tool owner to equip them on all alts would boost gathering, in turn boosting the earning related to bank space / storage space / slot bags?

Encouraging alts creation that way would also boost extra character slots earnings. That would be a QoL improvement for players, but also increase revenues for anet right?
